Behind the curtains

By Sorcerer

Behind the curtains, locked in, Anna was trapped. It was just her bedroom but that night it was more than just her bedroom. Her parents were asleep so it couldn’t possibly be them; her sister Erin had been asleep for hours. It couldn’t be…

“ You know why I’m here, don’t you?” said a voice from behind the curtain.

Anna thought, she’d been at school that day, nothing peculiar had happened but she had a feeling it was one of her friends, so she played it off like she knew them.

“Of course I do. What do you expect?” Anna said, rolling her eyes. As if they were a friend playing a Halloween joke on her but it’s just, they weren’t. Unknowledgeable about who or what she was speaking to, she continued, ”I’m not that silly, I know who you are. I think it’s you who doesn’t know me.”

“We know you very well, actually. We only ever talk to individuals, just like you. If you were to be one of us, you might actually understand. You’ll figure out why we’re here, even though you already.” Said a voice seeming to luminate through the air. “We want you, we you.”

She knew what she had to do, run. It was her only hope! Slamming the door, hoping the ghosts couldn’t get out, even though they obviously could. She thought the forest was the safest place that she could disappear into. She was right. Amongst the wilderness, clueless, her heart pounding in her throat, all she could do was run. The enmeshed roots of the trees, the shadows of the moonlight drew her to her end. Something, as majestic as can be, came up to her, stopping her in her trance.

A warrior, as strong as a knight, what could such creature of legends do to help? Far more than she could have ever expected. Anna felt an urge to hop on it. She felt as though it was more an instruction then an option. She did it, the flowing tail gracefully keeping her on this magical beast, she had only ever read about, like the most of us, but she was fortunate enough to now see one – a unicorn. The ghosts gone. She knew her family would never believe her but it is wonderful experience that would live with her forever.
